Entry requirements

A Bachelor's degree, equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen, from an internationally recognised university. The main field of study must be within engineering, science or the social sciences. Also required is Wind Power Project Management, 15 credits, Planning for Wind Energy, 5 credits, Wind Turbine Technology, 5 credits, Wind Power Grid Integration, 5 credits, and Wind Resource Assessment, 10 credits.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  • apply clean energy project analysis software for a particular wind farm
  • design a wind farm for the best energy output and financial outcome
  • assess aspects related to site options
  • assess a wind farm in a number of energy, economic, environmental, societal and technological criteria based on previous knowledge
  • compare a number of competing wind farms and suggest a wind farm for a given site
  • conduct a financial analysis of a wind wind farm's major activities

Content

Integrated analysis of wind farms based on technical, economic, environmental and social aspects will be performed. These aspects of a wind farm project will also include consideration of infrastructure such as the grid and roads. Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) methods will be introduced as an appropriate operational tool in analysis of wind farms' design and will be applied in a particular project.

Instruction

Lectures, seminars and group work.

Assessment

Written project report (5 credits).

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
