Entry requirements

Bachelor's degree in engineering, natural or social science. Introduction to Wind Energy as well as Wind Turbine Concepts and Applications.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  • describe how a wind turbine functions in the power system,
  • describe aerodynamic and mechatronical level of wind turbine efficiency,
  • analyse the implications of wind power integration on power system planning, operation and design with emphasis on grid regulations and electricity markets,
  • perform energy production forecasting in concert with weather forecasting systems,
  • write a full project report.

Content

The course covers the application of turbine generated electrical output using aerodynamic and mechatronical systems. This course brings together the engineering and economical aspects of distributed and bulk power generation. The course covers wind power energy technology and systems integration by highlighting the key principles behind each technology, its state of development and its relevance in the power industry with emphasis on operational, system connection and market aspects.

Instruction

Lectures, seminars, group and field work.

Assessment

Written hand-in assignments 3.0 credits and a written project report with oral presentation 2.0 credits.

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
