A Bachelor's degree including 50 credits in materials engineering and materials science, of which at least 10 credits in materials chemistry, 10 credits in technical materials/construction materials and 5 credits in physics of materials, and 25 credits in mathematics. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.
On completion of the course the student shall be able to:
- discuss the concept sustainable development,
- describe causes and sources of environmental problems and how they relate to materials engineering,
- describe how different materials can be recycled and what factors may complicate the recycling process,
- evaluate and critically review a life-cycle analysis of an existing process,
- discuss energy usage and energy-relevant materials from a sustainability perspective,
- discuss how materials engineering can help reduce the emission of greenhouse gasses.

Lectures, seminars and group work.
Written examination and written assignments. Oral presentations of group work. Active participation in seminars.
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
