General provisions

The course is part of the Euroculture Master's programme.

Entry requirements

The course is only available to students within the Euroculture Master's programme who have achieved 30 credits in the first semester and at least 20 credits in the second semester.

Learning outcomes

After completion of the course students will be able to:

  • master standard research techniques in a specific discipline in the humanities or social sciences;
  • evaluate, comment on and contribute to an on-going university-level research project;
  • participate and contribute reflexively in discussions on research methodologies.

Content

Students will pursue the research track through an individually tailored programme developed in consultation with the Euroculture Director; this may consist of course work, the preparation and defence of a substantial piece of original research, and/or a period of apprenticeship within a multi-party research project at Uppsala University.

Instruction

Teaching will be in the form of seminars, individual meetings, and/or through apprenticeship. Teaching will be in English.

Assessment

Examination takes place through active participation in apprenticeship, written papers and/or oral presentations. The apprenticeship supervisor must also submit an assessment form.

Grades: Fail (F), Sufficient (E), Satisfactory (D), Good (C), Very Good (B) and Excellent (A).

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University's disability coordinator.

All work to be assessed must be in English.

Transitional provisions

Students retain the right to be examined on the course according to this syllabus for 3 semesters after their course instance has ended. Normally, instruction will be given according to the latest version of the course syllabus only.
