Content
The internship course should give the student an opportunity to gain work experience and an idea of what career and work assignments the education can lead to.
Only organisations, authorities or private companies that provide the student with assignments judged to be relevant for the student's field of study and valuable to the student's future professional career will qualify as work placements. The student participates in the organisation's/company's everyday work and is given the opportunity to work with planning, implementation and evaluation of tasks in the field of Russian and Eurasian studies.
The internship can take place in or outside Sweden. The internship equals one academic term i.e. ca 20 weeks and is usually carried out during the term (i.e. not summer break). The internship has to be approved by the course convener at the Institute for Russian and Eurasian Studies prior to its start.
The student is responsible for securing a work placement him-/herself with the help of the course convener.
Instruction
Instruction includes guidance and supervision of the student's work at the organization as well as communication with and participation in meetings and / or seminars organized by the Institute.
To make the internship as meaningful as possible, for the intern and the organisation, it is vital for the student to be supervised during the internship. To achieve this, the organisation has to assign a supervisor for the intern.
Supervision is a vital aspect of the internship course: the supervisor's knowledge and experience of the profession are essential resources during the internship. Integrating theory and practice is a process in which the supervisor must take part and contribute with knowledge, support and help in solving specific problems.
The supervisor and the student shall jointly set up a plan for how the proposed tasks shall be carried out. It is advisable that the student receives independent tasks at an early stage of the internship to be able to get acquainted with the work tasks and the employees as soon as possible.
Assessment
The course is assessed through a written report and an approved internship.
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University´s disability coordinator or a decision on exceptions taken by the Department's working group for educational matters.
