Learning outcomes

On completion of the course the student shall be able to:

  • describe some common tasks for a medical engineer,
  • account for some common medical devices used in healthcare for diagnostics and treatment,
  • give examples of some of the challenges facing healthcare,
  • plan and implement a project in a group,
  • write a simple technical report,
  • plan and conduct an oral presentation,
  • account for equal terms/equal treatment for different grounds of discrimination.

Content

Overview of the program's goals and content. The future occupational role of medical technician. Brief description

of commonly used medical devices and how these are used for diagnosis and treatment of different illnesses. Examples of how the labor market looks like for medical technicians, different career paths and opportunities for further education. Report writing and oral presentation. Ethical issues concerning the professional role. Equal opportunities with respect to the Discrimination Act.

Instruction

Lectures, project work in group and study visits.

Assessment

Oral and written reports of project work (5 credits). Written exam (5 credits).

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
