Entry requirements

A Bachelor's degree, equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen, from an internationally recognised university. Also required is 90 credits in psychology with at least 7.5 credits in methods and statistics. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student should be able to:

• describe central emotion theories
• discuss the neurobiological basis of emotions and their connection to behavior
• evaluate neuroscientific research from a methodological perspective
• apply knowledge of brain imaging techniques
• reason about how neurobiological and emotional processes relate to the development and maintenance of psychopathology
• reflect on how psychological knowledge in this field can contribute to a sustainable development of society

Content

The course will address current theories and empirical findings in emotion psychology and affective neuroscience. This includes human as well as animal studies and the course has a clear focus on the application of methods in neuroscience such as brain imaging and experimental methods. In addition to international research, the course is based on the department's own research in the field, for example regarding: trauma and emotional memories, emotion and learning, the interaction between emotion and cognitive processes, emotion and music, emotion regulation, developmental perspectives, emotion and

neurotransmission as well as emotion and psychopathology.

Instruction

Teaching is given in the form of lessons, seminars and demonstrations. Teaching is given in English.

Assessment

Assessment of the student's knowledge will be in writing. The examination form can include individual written exams or assignments before seminars with active participation in seminars and other teaching.
