Entry requirements
A Bachelor's degree, equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen, from an internationally recognised university. Also required is 90 credits in psychology with at least 7.5 credits in methods and statistics. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.
Learning outcomes
After completion of the course, the student should be able to:
1. demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the strengths and weaknesses of experimental and non-experimental research designs
2. Explain the principles behind common statistical analysis methods in psychology, and be able to apply these using statistical software
Content
The course aims to prepare the students for the thesis work and for later use of psychological research/statistical methods in various settings. The course consists of 2 parts:
1. Research methods focusing on experimental and quasi-experimental designs (2,3 hp).
2. Statistics (5,2 hp) - analytic methods common in the field of psychology, with a focus on inferential statistics.
Instruction
Teaching is given in the form of lectures, seminars and group exercises.
Assessment
The students' knowledge is assessed via written exams, written reports (and via oral presentations thereof) as well as active participation during applied statistics workshops.
