Entry requirements

A Bachelor's degree, equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen, and in addition at least 30 credits of computer science courses at the advanced level (second cycle). A project plan approved by the department is necessary. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.

Learning outcomes

The overall aim of this course is to offer an opportunity to deepen the knowledge in computer science in an area not covered by regular courses. It can be done through studies of research papers, text books or projects. Alternatively it can be done by participating in a PhD-level course.

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

• assimilate new content on advanced level through a substantial proportion of self-studies,
• summarise and assess the content of the chosen area in computer science,
• identify, obtain and use core knowledge related to the task,
• integrate, generalise and combine prior knowledge in computer science.

The exact content is decided upon in each individual course instance. The content must be on the advanced level in computer science.

Assessment

Written and oral presentation, and, if applicable, demonstrations.

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.

Other directives

The title of the study project and its advisor is registered in LADOK. This course differs from 1DL710 Advanced Course on Topics in Computer Science, 10 credits, only in extent and not in level or depth. Both courses can be included in a degree provided that the content is not overlapping.
