Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- explain the fundamental theory of atmospheric radiation processes
- solve problems and perform calculations related to atmospheric radiation processes
- explain the interaction of greenhouse gases with atmospheric radiation
- evaluate how different radiation processes affect the radiative forcing at the Earth's surface
- performs measurements of radiation and interpret the results
Content
The basic equations of atmospheric radiation. Scattering and absorption. Solar radiation and infrared radiation and its transmission in the atmosphere. The influence of clouds on radiation. The interaction of greenhouse gases with radiation. Earth's radiation balance. Measurement of radiation. Optical phenomena in the atmosphere.
Instruction
Lectures, labs, calculation exercises.
Assessment
Written examination (3 credits). Oral and written lab reports (2 credits)
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university
