Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, students should be able to:
- describe advanced project management models and theories such as agile and extreme for software development and implement Scrum as the project management framework,
- identify and evaluate ethical considerations for developing and applying extended reality (XR) technologies in industry,
- analyse and review the advantages, limitations and system requirements of various XR tools in industrial settings,
- define, plan and execute a structured project together with other students, within given parameters and proceeding from a generally stated problem, and reflect on and develop the cooperation of the group throughout the project lifecycle,
- design and use appropriate data pipelines and solution architectures for XR software applications,
- design, develop and deploy original XR applications using a variety of software, tools, and programming languages suitable for industrial purposes,
- present and discuss technical concepts and project outcomes in writing to peers, stakeholders, and potential users of XR application, and provide constructive feedback on the projects and work of peers.
Content
Technical Foundations of XR Development:
- Introduction to XR technologies such as Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), Mixed Reality (MR) and applications.
- Foundations of an available game development engine and a lower-level programming language for scripting used in XR development.
Project Management for XR Development:
- Agile and extreme project management methodologies.
- Scrum as a project management framework for XR development.
Project Implementation and Deployment:
- Data pipeline design and implementation for XR applications.
- Integration with IoT devices and cloud-based solutions for real-time data access and streaming.
- Deployment of XR applications to XR hardware devices.
Ethical Considerations in XR Development:
- Privacy and security in XR applications.
- Accessibility and inclusivity in XR design.
- Social and ethical impacts of XR technologies.
Applications of XR in Industry:
- Simulation and training applications for industrial processes.
- Remote collaboration and maintenance in industrial settings.
- Data visualisation and analysis for industrial decision-making.
Instruction
Lectures, seminars, workshops and supervision of project work.
Assessment
Written and oral presentation of project work (8 credits), written and oral opposition on a project report from another group of students (1 credits), and active participation i seminars and workshops (1 credits).
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding targeted pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
