Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- critically examine and reflect on the UN's global goals for sustainable development (SDGs) as interconnected so-called wicked problems within the framework of the UN and related international systems,
- based on the global goals, relate and evaluate the practical implementation of projects in E-mobility in the UN's Development Program's (UNDP's) partner countries,
- independently assess, apply, and adapt collaborative methods, such as change projects, to achieve sustainable development goals,
- apply change project methodology when implementing solutions for sustainability goals and critically examine the proposed methodology,
- explain and reflect on UNDP's 7-step methodology for implementing SDG-related projects in practice,
- present the key concepts of e-Mobility and assess synergies and goal conflicts in relation to the UN's sustainability goals,
- present an e-Mobility solution for electric vehicles and related parameters applied in a design process, and reflect on and critically assess your solution,
- evaluate and critically analyze forecasts for Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and interpret them in relation to the UN's sustainability goals,
- present and assess how UNDP works to contribute to the global decarbonization of the transport sector.
Content
The purpose of the course is to provide the student with a deeper understanding of the UN's sustainability goals by describing the background of these goals in the context of the international world order. The course also provides tools for working towards goal achievement and practical examples from the UN, exemplified with a particular focus on E-mobility.
These methods include collaborative learning and methods and the 7-step methodology, the method used by the United Nations Development Programme, UNDP to manage technical projects in the Global South.
This multidisciplinary course includes four complementing modules where the first two provide context and tools of co- creation and the second two provide practical skills for implementation with a focus on electromobility.
Co-creation methodology is applied on sustainable development solutions together with an in-depth understanding of the SDGs in the UN framework. Practical applications and examples are provided by experts at the UNDP. The course will provide students with international and intercultural perspectives by linking the Global North and Global South and merging technical and behavioural, societal and cultural perspectives.
E-mobility is studied in a holistic project management approach, from early assessment of needs for charging infrastructure, through business models, site selection and technical system design, to operation and maintenance. The practical application, based on case studies provided by the UNDP, builds capacity for the implementation of solutions towards the SDGs.
The course contains the following four modules:
Module 1: Understanding the SDGs and their framework.
Module 2: Co-creation methodology.
Module 3: Practical implementation of SDG solutions - E-mobility from assessment to implementation within the United Nations Development Programme.
Module 4: Project work.

Assessment
Module 1 - Written assignment (1.5 credits). Module 2 - Written assignment and oral presentation (3 credits). Module 3 - Written assignment and oral presentation (1.5 credits). Module 4 - Written report (1.5 credits).
If there are special reasons for doing so, the examiner may make exceptions from the specified examination method of assessment and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
