Learning outcomes
In terms of knowledge and comprehension, after completed course the student should be able to:
- identify and explain the life cycle of Android applications and its key components
- describe the function and structure of the Android manifest, the fundamental app components, and the view system
- explain the core concepts behind a game loop and tile-based games.
In terms of skill and ability, after completed course the student should be able to:
- develop small-scale 2D games for Android
- implement and manage the Android application life cycle within game projects
- utilize debugging tools to inspect and manage the program state during development
- integrate and handle inputs from touch, accelerometer, and gamepads
- use the Android resource system for game assets such as bitmaps, layout definitions, user interface strings and audio.
Content
This course offers an introduction to game programming for Android. The student will develop small-scale games to become familiar with the Android platform, focusing on the Android application life cycle, user interaction, performance, battery usage, and responsiveness. The course will also cover the basics of 2D game development, structured around a simple game engine architecture. Students will have the freedom to develop their individual projects into unique and feature-complete games.
Instruction
Instruction is conducted through supervision, individual reading, and practical exercises.
Assessment
The examination takes place through submission assignments.
