Entry requirements

Admission to the course requires a pass in the courses Physiotherapy I (3PT013) and Psychology I (2PS608).

Learning outcomes

Knowledge and understanding

• - Describe and explain impairments in the respiratory and circulatory systems as well as the musculoskeletal system in relation to risks for complications and medical conditions in acute and subacute conditions

Competence and skills

• Apply physiotherapeutic measures from a biopsychosocial perspective for impairments in the respiratory and circulatory systems as well as the musculoskeletal system in relation to risks for complications and medical conditions in acute and subacute conditions.
• Apply risk prevention and ergonomic measures.
• Apply laws, regulations, and guidelines governing healthcare, and document and communicate physiotherapeutic measures.

Judgement and approach

• Demonstrate the ability to critically evaluate the results of physiotherapeutic measures based on analysis and clinical reflection, and identify the need for further knowledge.
• Identify personal values and attitudes in the professional role as a physiotherapist.

Content

The course includes basic physiotherapeutic examination, assessment, treatment, evaluation, and preventive measures adapted to impairments in the respiratory and circulatory systems as well as the musculoskeletal system. Application of behavioral medicine and educational methods. Medical law and documentation in connection with patient work, as well as physiotherapy in palliative care.

Instruction

The course is given in the form of lectures, practical training, seminars and clinical placement. The work is done both individually and in groups. The contents of the lectures may constitute a basis for examination also in those cases when attendance is not compulsory.

Assessment

​Examination is conducted through written exams, practical exams, mandatory seminars, written assignments, and clinical placements (VFU).

Exceptions from forms of examination

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University's disability coordinator.

Requirements for a Pass

To pass the course, approved written and practical examinations, approved participation in mandatory seminars, approved written assignments, and approved clinical placement (VFU) are required.

Examination Opportunities

Students who have failed their VFU have the right to retake it on one more occasion (a total of 2 occasions). If there are exceptional reasons, the program committee may grant an additional opportunity.
