Content

Descriptiv organic chemistry. Stereochemistry. Organic reaction mechanisms. Organic synthetic methods. Spectroscopy and analytical methods in organic chemistry. Security and risks in lab work will be discussed during the course. The course is intended to provide knowledge of: the structure of carbon compounds and the relationship between the chemical and physical properties of the compounds and their structure, stereochemistry, some important organic reaction mechanism and their investi-gation, the structure and properites of bio-organic molecules, some industrial organic synthesis, organic chemicals in daily life, training in fundamental methods used in a labo-ratory of organic chemistry, training in using spectroscopic and chromatographic methods on problems in organic chemistry, literature in organic chemistry and training in oral and written presentation of experimental results.

Instruction

Lectures, seminars, laboratory works and demonstrations. Training in oral and written reports

Assessment

Examination is arranged during and at the end of the course. The laboratory work must also be passed. Students who have failed a test have the right to take a new examination at the end of the autumn semester, after Christmas vacations and at the end of the spring semester.
