Course 1: Political Theory , 2 p

The curriculum covers the history of political ideas from ancient to present time with emphasis on relevance for the modern world. The aim of the course is to prepare the students for an autonomous and critical attitude to conventional wisdom. The profile of the course is the study of classical scholars such as Machiavelli, Rousseau, Mill and Marx. The course concists of lectures, seminars and turn-papers.

Course 2: International Politics , 2 p

The course deals with the development of internationel politics during the 20th century. Focus is on Swedish security policy and some of the main theories in the field of international politics.

3. Examination I , 4 p

Written examination in Political Theory and International Politics.

Course 4: Citizen, State and Politics, 5 p

This course aims to provide a comprehensive view of politics and political systems. Departing from a discussion about the concept of citizenship, including political culture, political behav-iour and social networks , it proceeds to discuss forms for political participation and influence, as well as the institutional construction of the state and the EU. Here, Swedish political history is also brought up. Finally, focus is on public policy and its implementation, and changes therein, particularly welfare policy change. The course has a marked empirical focus, i.e., it uses existing countries for example (and among these Sweden is given pride of place). Moreo-ver, the course has an ample theoretical focus and devotes special attention to the political problems present in developing countries and in new democracies.
