Aims
The course gives knowledge in probability theory and statistical theory for applications in computer science.
Content
The probability concept, probability calculus. Random variables. Expected value and variance. Common probability distributions. The law of large numbers. The central limit theorem. Poisson process, elements of queuing. Random number generation, Monte-Carlo simulation. Descriptive statistics. Introduction to point and interval estimation.
Instruction
Lectures, problem solving sessions and laboratory
sessions.
Assessment
Written and, possibly, oral examination at the end of the course. Moreover, compulsory assignments may be given during the course.
