Entry requirements
Topology MN1 or Real Analysis MN1, Algebra MN3 and
Analysis MN2.
Aims
The course will provide basic knowledge of algebraic topology and topology on manifolds.
Content
Homotopy, fundamental group and covering spaces,
geometric applications. Topological manifolds,
classification of one-dimensional manifolds and
two-dimensional closed manifolds. Smooth
manifolds, immersions and imbeddings,
orientation, the tangent bundle and vector
bundles.
Instruction
Lectures and problem solving sessions.
Assessment
Written and, possibly, supplementary oral
examination at the end of the course.
