Entry requirements

The courses En dimensionell analys and Algebra and Geometry,

or equivalent courses.

Aims

The course shall give fundamental knowledge about

real- and vector-valued functions of one and

several variables, their properties locally

(differential calculus) and globally (integral calculus).

It shall also give skills in using

concepts introduced in the course and training in mathematical

modelling.

Content

Real- and vector-valued functions of one and

several variables. Spacecurves and arclength.

Partial derivatives: chain rule, gradient,

directional derivative, total derivative, functional

determinants. Taylors formula in several variables.

Optimisation problems. Introduction to linear

programming. Least-square method and linear regression.

Double and triple integrals, substitution of

variables, applications.

Instruction

Lectures and problemclasses.

Assessment

Written exam at the end of the course.

Possibly also hand-in assignments and oral examination.
