Pension scheme
As an employee at Uppsala University you will receive pension from several sources:
National retirement pension
The national retirement pension is paid by the Swedish Pensions Agency It corresponds to 18.5 per cent of your salary and other taxable benefits. You can earn your pension only up to a certain income ceiling. The income ceiling corresponds to a pensionable amount of 8.7 income basic amounts per year (SEK 673 038 in 2026).
Goverment employee pension
From Uppsala University you will also receive a government employee pension through the Occupational Pensions Agreement. This part is administered by the National Government Employee Pensions Board.
Voluntary contribution of pension
Uppsala University also offers salary exchange, a voluntary way to increase your pension. Salary exchange means that you choose an amount that is deducted from your gross salary and placed into pension savings managed by Kåpan Pensioner. Since the deduction lowers your gross salary, your tax is reduced, making this an advantageous form of pension saving.
When it comes to transferring your pension to Sweden you should contact the pension authority in your home country for further information.
