Modern Irish II or the equivalent

Learning outcomes

Upon completing the course, students will be able to 

  • use a more advanced Modern Irish vocabulary
  • understand everyday spoken and written Irish
  • speak and write about more complex phenomena in Irish
  • demonstrate good knowledge of Irish grammar

Content

The course focuses on more advanced aspects of Irish grammar. Students' skills in reading and writing Irish are trained through the study of selected texts. Speech and listening comprehension skills are trained through group discussions.

Instruction

Campus course: Group teaching. The teaching can be given with web support.

Distance learning: Teaching is conducted through the Internet-based learning environment. A number of physical meetings for group teaching may be added.

The language of instruction is English.

Assessment

Examination campus course: Examination is conducted through both oral and written assignments and through continuous assessment.

Examination distance course: Examination is conducted through both oral and written assignments and through continuous assessment.

Grades used are either Fail, Pass, or Pass with Distinction.

Students who do not achieve a passing grade on the regular examination will have another opportunity to take the examination within a reasonable period of time after the regular examination.

Other directives

If the syllabus or course reading for a component has been changed, students have a right to be examined under the original syllabus and course reading on three occasions during the following three semesters. Normally this right then expires. Otherwise there are no limitations on the number of examination opportunities.
