Learning outcomes
Upon a successful completion of the course the student should be able to:
- explain comprehensively the function of joints using screws and rivets, shaft joints, and springs and be able to dimension them,
- explain comprehensively the function of shafts, bearings, seal rings and be able to dimension them,
- explain comprehensively the function of couplings, breaks, transmission and gearboxes and be able to dimension them.
Content
Design and dimensioning principle, tribology, permanent and re-mountable joints, springs, shafts, shaft joints, seal rings, bearings, transmission, couplings, breaks, gears.
Fundamentals of machine elements: Fundamentals of design and dimensioning, tribology, materials and their mechanical properties.
Joints: re-mountable and permanent joints, springs.
Rotational elements: Shaft joints, seal rings, bearings, and momentum wheels.
Transmission: Shaft couplings, breaks, axelkopplingar, bromsar, belt gears, and fundamentals of gearboxes.
Instruction
Lectures, exercises, project, and seminars.
Assessment
Written exam (6.0 credits). Project (3.0 credit). Laboratory (1.0 credit).
