Learning outcomes
To pass, the student should be able to
- in a project group, plan and within given time frames carry out a project in the scientific computing area;
- argue for and evaluate solution methods;
- evaluate results and relate them to the project's subject field;
- communicate with expertise from the project's subject field;
- present and summarise the project work orally in English or Swedish in a seminar;
- present and summarise the project work in the form of a scientific report and in a popular style as a poster and a web presentation.
Content
The course is based on a project, where students in small groups analyse and solve a given problem, which entails planning, programming and presentation. The work entails interpretation of the problem, mathematical modelling, numerical methods, implementation, and presentation. The project tasks are taken from industry or university and cover many application areas. Instruction is also given in oral and written presentation of scientific results, e.g. in seminars, posters, and on the web, including popular scientific presentation. Project management.
Instruction
Projectwork normally in groups (2-3 students). Seminars and presentation skills training, and lectures on project management.
Assessment
Written report, oral presentation in seminars, poster, web presentation. Opponent on another presentation.
