Content

The course consists of an independent research or development project and is carried out individually under supervision support. Theoretical and methodological knowledge from completed courses should be applied, broadened and deepened from a scientific perspective. The work includes literature search, project planning and execution, critical analysis of own results and scientific literature of relevance as well as oral and written presentation. Students performing projects at academic departments or private sector are expected to participate in the regular seminar activities of the research group. The course contains also a longitudinal interdisciplinary project- Bench to Bedside and Back (BBB), which will be performed in groups under guidance. In addition, the course includes a short module in Personal development (IMIM ”Spring school”) with training in, for example, written and oral presentation.

Following tasks are included in the research project work:

  • A written project description including a time plan
  • Practical work in accordance to the project plan
  • Written comprehensive scientific article presenting obtained results
  • A written project summary in popular science
  • Oral presentation and discussion of project in joint seminar as well as in research group• Critical analysis of others research, oral and written presentation

Assessment

All the above tasks must be successfully completed and approved for the student to pass the course. This includes that the project work is presented both orally and in writing according to specific instructions. In addition, approved project and research plans, an approved evaluation from supervisor, presence and active participation in seminar/symposia as well as fulfilment of the expected work and time plan, are required to pass.

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University's disability coordinator.
