Entry requirements

A Bachelor's degree in occupational therapy, audiology, biomedicine, dietetics, physiotherapy, speech therapy, medicine, psychology, radiography, nursing or social work science.

Learning outcomes

The course gives basic knowledge of how to supervise students on placement in the care sector in their care of patients. The course focuses on theory and practice of supervision, with emphasis on the supervisor's educational role in as well supervising as in providing feedback and assessing the students' achievement during placement.

On completion of the course, the course participants should be able to:

  • apply governing documents for supervision during placement
  • apply a student centered approach
  • apply educational strategies in clinical supervision models
  • apply assessment process during placement

Instruction

The teaching is given as literature studies, lectures, group assignments, seminars, role plays and written study assignments. The teaching can be partly web-based.

Assessment

Examination takes place continuously during the course as active participation in practical sessions, discussions and written study assignments.

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University's disability coordinator.
