Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  • describe the atmosphere's structure and how meteorological parameters (temperature, air pressure, humidity) vary in time and space
  • describe the global circulation of the atmosphere, frontal systems and atmospheric motions on a local scale
  • describe the Earth's climate and factors affecting it
  • describe how meteorological observations are performed and how they are used in the forecast work

Content

Radiation, temperature and wind conditions in the atmosphere. Condensation and precipitation. Air masses and fronts. Low and high pressure systems. Tropical meteorology. Meteorological standard instruments and their accuracy. Cloud classification. Climatology.

Instruction

Lectures and home assignments.

Assessment

Written Examination ( 5 ECTS) at the end of the course. The home assignments corresponds to 2.5 ECTS. To pass the course both the written examination and the home assignments must be passed.

A student who fails the exam may try again in agreement with the director of study.
