Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  • describe the Earth's history before and during the Life of the Dinosaurs
  • describe the evolutionary steps that led to the origin of dinosaurs
  • describe the major groups of dinosaurs
  • describe the distinction between dinosaurs and other reptiles
  • describe the main characters of dinosaurs

Content

The course is an introduction to the history of Earth and the evolution life, with special reference to the Age of Dinosaurs. It covers the origin and evolution of dinosaurs and other vertebrates of the Palaeozoic and Mesozoic world, as well as the extinction of dinosaurs. The demonstrations are held in the Museum of Evolution.

Instruction

Lectures and two obligatory museum exercises.

Assessment

Written examination (3 credits), written individual essay on a dinosaur related topic (3 credits) as well as obligatory course elements (1.5 credits).

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
