Entry requirements

60 credits in Physics including at least 10 credits in geophysics (e.g. Applied and Environmental Geophysics 10 credits, Global Geophysics 10 credits, Seismology 10 credits). Admission requires a project plan accepted by the department.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  • seek, gather, value and critically examine relevant information for a certain problem and be able to critically discuss the topics of the subject.
  • individually identify, formulate and solve problems and to do that within a given time frame.
  • orally and in text describe the given subject, and know how to discuss information and solutions with different groups.
  • show ability to perform an individual degree project within the given program
  • show ability to make assessments with regards to relevant scientific, social and ethical aspects.

Content

Within the course the student will perform an individual degree project in physics: geophysics. During the project the student will train and use abilities that are required for a B.Sc. degree in Physics. Within the project the student shall apply its knowledge in physics and meteorology to solve the problem. The project is normally designed as a research or of a develop type project.

Instruction

The teaching is individual and depends on the form of the project. Individual supervision but also other types of teaching may occur. The course ends with a seminary, where the student orally present the project work.

Assessment

The course is graded based on the written report and the oral presentation.

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
