Entry requirements
A Bachelor's degree, equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen, from an internationally recognised university. Proficiency in English equivalent to the general entry requirements for first-cycle (Bachelor's level) studies.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the course the student should have acquired the ability to analyse and critique research questions, perspectives, arguments and conclusions of musicological texts.
Content
The course is based on the study of musicological texts that have made an impact on the discipline. The readings alternate between the different academic years when the course is given and may be drawn from different subdisciplines, such as historical musicology, music theory, ethnomusicology or aesthetics.
Instruction
Teaching takes the form of seminars over texts distributed and read before each seminar. The students practice to analyse the texts, their wider relevance and central significance, both as a group and as individuals, under the guidance of the lecturer. Active participation in discussions of all students is central to the module, and group assigments are given between the seminars.
Assessment
Active seminar participation, oral presentations and written assignments.
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University's disability coordinator.
