About the course

The course gives a broad knowledge about fundamental chemical and physical principles operating in materials relevant for energy applications, such as solar cells, batteries, fuel cells, magnetic materials, hydrogen storage, etcetera. The overview of modern theoretical and experimental concepts and trends in energy related materials research will be given and the close relation between the basic research and applications in this field will be discussed. The representation of energy related research at Uppsala University and its interdisciplinary nature will be reviewed. The political and social impact of the development of environmentally friendly energy technologies on modern society will be also discussed.
