Layout of the programme

The programme is closely linked to the research conducted by the teachers you meet. At Campus Gotland the education is also characterised by a liberal arts environment including smaller study groups and a close interaction between faculty and students.

The first semester includes courses that introduce you to the main topic and to academic studies. You study business administration, economic history and the characteristics of business-oriented, English communication in multicultural environments. Furthermore, courses in fundamentals of philosophy of science, scientific methods and academic writing. The second semester includes courses that provide a first insight into financial accounting and costing, as well as management and marketing. All topics will be studied from a global and historical perspective.

Year two begins with a semester in which you are studying courses in management control and finance, as well as organisation theory and marketing. Term four and five are open and here you can make your own choices. During this time is mandatory to study 30 credits of a minor subject. The minor which is primarily offered at Campus Gotland is Liberal arts. You are also given the opportunity to undertake a semester abroad. During the sixth and final semester you will study advanced courses in business administration, 30 credits, including an Bachelor's Thesis of 15 credits.

Instruction

Teaching methods vary between different courses and you will need to study a lot on your own. You will alternate between lectures and seminars with individual work and group work. We strive to integrate different disciplines to show the context and develop your ability to deal with complex issues. In some courses, we use case studies linking theory and practical reality. In others guest speakers from companies and organisations outside the university contribute. Throughout the program you will develop your skills in written and oral communication. Assessment methods vary also depending on the nature of the course. Literature in English occurs in virtually all courses, and some courses are taught entirely in English.

The programme leads to a Bachelor Degree in Social Science with a major in Business Studies.
