Uppsala University's Forum for Africa Studies was established in September 2011, by the Board of the Disciplinary Domain of Humanities and Social Sciences, but over the years it has also come to include Medicine and Pharmacy (2015) and most recently Science and Technology (2023).
There is a considerable amount of research on Africa at Uppsala University. Forum for Africa Studies aims to facilitate collaboration, communication and research between scholars and institutions both inside and outside of Uppsala. Since 2017 the Forum for Africa Studies is a centre within the Department of Cultural Anthropology and Ethnology.
Forum favours the consolidation of research environments, encourages the development of Africa centered courses within departments and at the university at large, and seeks to promote collaborations with colleagues at African universities and research institutes.
