The 2026 Sahel Sympoisum focuses on how to rethink, and strengthen research collaborations, academic spaces, and civic liberties in the Sahel today.

Since 2022, Uppsala University's Forum for Africa Studies hosts a symposium on the Sahel in West Africa, as a way to draw attention and communicate research results from work in one of the most vulnerable world regions. The 2026 Sahel Symposium will also involve the hybrid launching of the AEGIS Collaborative Research Group Le monde du Sahel/Promoting Academic Collaborations and Spaces (Sahel/PAX).

Teh Sahel Symposium is open to the general public and free of charge. No registration. Presentations in English and French.

The 2026 Sahel Symposium co-organized with the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).
