Multidisciplinary Conference

Nuclear weapons have once again moved to the forefront of global concern. This resurgence underscores the urgent need to deepen our understanding of the conditions necessary for nuclear risk reduction, non-proliferation and disarmament. These challenges can only be tackled through concerted effort from a wide array of disciplines.

To support these efforts, the Alva Myrdal Centre hosts a multidisciplinary conference in Uppsala, Sweden. The conference serves as a platform for sharing and discussing research, ideas, and experiences related to nuclear disarmament. It brings together insights from the social sciences, natural sciences, and other academic fields, along with perspectives from practical experience. The conference is a hybrid event.

  • Network with academics, practitioners and others interested in nuclear disarmament;
  • Learn about the latest research in the field of nuclear disarmament;
  • Influence the future of nuclear disarmament research and policy by presenting your own work or by contributing with your knowledge and perspectives.
AMC Multidisciplinary Conference 2026 – Building Blocks for Disarmament

The next AMC Conference will take place on 9–10 June 2026 in Uppsala, Sweden

– Are we experiencing a crisis of the global nuclear order? In the past year, we have witnessed a waning commitment to the Non-Proliferation Treaty and states are resorting to threats and the use of force instead of diplomacy. These uncertain times call for more research, dialogue, and exchange of knowledge on issues related to arms control, non-proliferation, and disarmament.

What can we learn from history? What political tools are feasible in times of distrust and mounting insecurity? What challenges do emerging technologies bring? How can verification be enhanced through technical innovation? What role can civil society play to restore a commitment to disarmament?

Given the complexity of the challenges in relation to nuclear weapons, we need to meet across academic disciplines -- and across policy, academia, and civil society -- to move the conversation forward. Welcome to submit your proposal for the 5th AMC Conference “Building Blocks for Disarmament”!
