Our mission
CIRCUS stands for Centre for Integrated Research on Culture and Society. The purpose of CIRCUS is to strengthen inter- and multidisciplinary research collaborations across subject, faculty and disciplinary domain lines at Uppsala University. CIRCUS is based on research in the humanities and social sciences and develops research collaborations that span the entire breadth of research at Uppsala University.
CIRCUS’s overall mission is to develop successful interdisciplinary research of the highest quality for the benefit of humanity and for a better world. This is done by enhancing Uppsala University’s ability to engage in various types of cross-cutting research through skills development and qualified support for researcher-initiated cross-cutting collaboration. CIRCUS conducts activities that enhance the ability of employees to initiate and participate in such collaborations. CIRCUS also works to develop the organisational conditions for cross-cutting research cooperation at Uppsala University. Finally, CIRCUS also supports collaboration-intensive research projects.
CIRCUS has an office, but the research that CIRCUS supports is carried out by researchers who are placed in academic departments and equivalent units at Uppsala University.
