SIHI Sweden Conference 2025

The third international SIHI Sweden conference was held on December 8-9 in Uppsala, Sweden. The theme of the conference was "Advancing Equity in Social Innovation in Health”.

Social innovations in health – for whom and with what effect?

Social innovations in health are increasingly recognised for their potential to improve health outcomes. However, there is a significant gap in research examining how these innovations impact health equity. Without a critical understanding of how social, economic, and structural inequalities shape access to and outcomes of these innovations, they risk reinforcing or even exacerbating existing disparities. More research is urgently needed to ensure that social innovations in health are designed and implemented in ways that are inclusive, equitable, and responsive to the needs of marginalised and underserved populations.

To address this need, we held an academic conference dedicated to advancing equity in social innovation in health. The aim was to bring together researchers, practitioners, and community leaders from across disciplines to critically examine how social innovations can both challenge and reinforce health inequities. More than just a forum for discussion, the conference worked as a space for meaningful collaboration, designed to foster new partnerships, deepen understanding, and actively co-create a research agenda that places equity at the core of innovation. Through interactive sessions, shared learning, and intentional networking opportunities, we aimed to catalyse a new wave of research that ensures social innovations in health are inclusive, just, and transformative.
