Rwanda

The overall objective of the research cooperation in Rwanda is to increase the production of relevant high-quality scientific knowledge that contributes to Rwanda becoming a knowledge-based economy.

The first programme phase was coordinated by Linköping University, Sweden, 1 July 2013 to 30 June 2019.

The second programme phase lasts seven years, from 1 July 2019 to 30 June 2026, and is coordinated by ISP.

The Swedish cooperation with University of Rwanda (UR) aims to increase the production and use of scientific knowledge of international quality.

 

The programme is grouped into five thematic areas:

  • Environmental research (3 subprogrammes)
  • Natural science and mathematics research (2 subprogrammes)
  • Research for health (3 subprogrammes)
  • Social sciences research (5 subprogrammes)
  • Research support (4 subprogrammes)t

The cooperation comprises PhD training, postdoctoral fellowships, master’s training, research and innovation grants, support to research infrastructure like ICT and library, development of capacity for research management, and strengthening the research culture at University of Rwanda.

So far 93 PhD students have graduated. During this programme phase it is planned that an additional 76 PhD students and 240 master´s students will be admitted.
