Bilateral research cooperation in Tanzania

Main focus in the research cooperation in Tanzania is to strengthen research, training, and innovation for sustainable development.

The Swedish bilateral research support to Tanzania started in 1986.

In 2024, Tanzania entered into a new bilateral phase with Sida, covering support to two universities:

The agreement period is from November 2024 to June 2030. Sida entrusted ISP the coordination on the Swedish side. The emphasis for this program phase is on the development of local PhD programs in Tanzania.

The programme consists of 8+5 (UDSM+MUHAS) subprogrammes which covers the broad spectrum of research areas, such as Capacity Building in Mathematics, Food Security, Health Systems, HIV, Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases, Molecular Biosciences, Sustainable Water Resources.
