Bilateral research cooperation in Mozambique

Main focus in the research cooperation in Mozambique is to strengthen Eduardo Mondlane University's capacity to promote high quality research and produce scientific knowledge for national development.

Since October 2011 ISP is assigned by Sida as the coordinating entity for the Swedish activities in the bilateral program with Universidade Eduardo Mondlane (UEM) in Maputo, Mozambique.

The previous agreement period between Sweden and Mozambique for this program was 2011-2015, with an extension up to 31 December 2017.

The programme phase was from 1 November 2017 to 31 December, 2022, with a no-cost extension from 1 January 2023 to 31 December 2024.

The programme consists of 21 subprograms, grouped in six thematic areas:

1. Population, health and well-being of the society
2. Agriculture, nutrition and food security
3. Natural resources, environment and climate change
4. Technology and innovation
5. Education, culture, good governance, ethics and human rights
6. Key supporting elements
