After a meticulous selection among a record-breaking number of applicants, SweDeliver can now present the master’s students that are selected for Summer internships 2025. “It feels both honoring and exciting,” says Sofie Sellén, who is now looking forward to six weeks of pharmaceutical frontline research at Pharmetheus.

This summer, international competence center SweDeliver will give six master’s students the opportunity to do a research internship at one of the center’s 14 industrial partners. As the application window closed, a record-breaking number of aspirants were counted in from all across Europé. After carefully reviewing the many high-quality candidates, SweDeliver can now present the students who made it all the way. One of them is Sofie Sellén, student at Uppsala University’s Master's Programme in Pharmaceutical Modelling.

“When I first learned about SweDeliver's summer internship, I knew right away that this was an opportunity I simply must apply for. I also understood that there is fierce competition for the internships, so receiving news that I were among those selected for this unique opening to take active part in research at one of the SweDeliver network companies feels both honorable and exciting,” says Sofie Sellén.

The SweDeliver summer internships offer a sought-after chance for late-stage master’s students to gain valuable professional experience and to build networks within the pharmaceutical industry for their upcoming careers. For the companies, it adds an extra resource in an ongoing project, and for Sofie Sellén, six weeks await at Pharmetheus, a rapidly expanding company with more than a hundred employees in 15 countries.

“I am truly looking forward to my summer at Pharmetheus, a company that provides expertise in numerous connected areas, including pharmacometryics and physiologically based pharmacokinetics. According to my project description, I will participate in, among many things, the development and application of models to simulate various scenarios during drug development. This is an inspiring challenge that will undoubtedly also be very evolving for me, which feels fantastic.”

Pharmetheus was founded in 2012 by colleagues at Uppsala University's research environment for pharmacometrics. The close ties between the company and the academic research team contribute to effective implementation of new methods and models in practical operations, while the daily dialogue provides up-to-date insights into the challenges faced by the industry and ensure that research tracks remain relevant.

“The high demand for Pharmetheus' services is paving the way for our rapid growth in both Sweden and globally. At the same time, we identify that not enough people are trained in physiology-based modeling to fully utilize its true potential. New competence is needed and therefore an increased number of future experts must be introduced to these methods, and we are very much looking forward to Sofie Sellén joining our team this summer,” says Erik Sjögren, Principal Consultant & PBPK/PBBM Platform Scientific Lead at Pharmetheus.

The fast growing interest among European master's students for a SweDeliver's summer internship confirms that the center is rapidly approaching the international drawing power that has been a firm goal from the start. An important part of this work is to attract, train and keep the next generation of leading researchers, and by increasing student involvement in drug delivery research, the platform for recruiting top-of-the-line PhD students is further broadened.

“It will be very interesting to experience first hand how research projects are conducted in the industry, and I already know that I will gain in-depth knowledge that will be of great benefit in my future career. A master's degree in Pharmaceutical Modelling opens up many interesting paths, and today I feel very inspired to apply for a PhD programme if the opportunity comes up” says Sofie Sellén.
