SweDeliver presents 2026 summer interns • “Exceptionally strong profiles”

“I am so grateful for this unique opportunity to experience frontline research in drug delivery,” says Christina Ioannou, one of six highly qualified master’s students selected for the SweDeliver Summer internship 2026.
From a record number of applicants, SweDeliver has selected the six master’s students who will carry out research internships with the centre’s industry partners. After reviewing 147 highly qualified candidates from across Europe, Project Coordinator Caroline Fronzak Alvebratt is very pleased with this year’s cohort.

“The master’s students we have selected have exceptionally strong profiles that clearly match the projects presented by our industry partners. We can also conclude that this year’s applications are of an impressive standard, and that the companies hosting this summer’s interns can look forward to valuable additions in the laboratory,” says Caroline Fronzak Alvebratt.
Christina Ioannou, a master’s student in pharmaceutical modelling at Uppsala University, will carry out her internship at Pharmetheus. The rapidly expanding company currently has more than 100 employees across fifteen countries, and Christina will focus on physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modelling at its Uppsala site.
“I have long been interested in drug delivery, and the SweDeliver Summer internship is a unique opportunity to experience frontline research in the field. I am so grateful to have been given this opportunity in such strong competition, and I will do my best to ensure this trust is well placed,” says Christina Ioannou, who is currently completing her degree project at the University of Helsinki.
For master’s students, the SweDeliver Summer internship offers an opportunity to build professional networks and gain valuable experience in the pharmaceutical industry. For the centre, the initiative is one of several strategic efforts to strengthen the engagement of the next generation of experts in drug delivery – and the positive response from students confirms that SweDeliver is steadily approaching the international recognition that has been its goal since day one.

Christel Bergström, Center Director, SweDeliver
“If we are to consolidate a world-leading position in drug delivery, we must attract, educate and retain the top researchers of the future. The fact that master’s students are willing to travel to Sweden for research internships is proof that we are moving in the right direction. We now aim to provide this year’s interns with a platform and inspiration to contribute to Swedish life sciences and a healthier world,” says Center Director Christel Bergström.
Sofia Hedberg, a master’s student in Drug Discovery and Development, is preparing for a research internship at Meribel Pharma Solutions – the European contract development and manufacturing organisation that once again welcomes a SweDeliver intern. During six-week, Sofia will deepen her knowledge of formulations, processes in pharmaceutical development, and how these are quality controlled.
“As a master’s student, my interest in formulations and routes of administration has grown even stronger, and during my ongoing degree project it has become increasingly clear that I want to engage in more research projects. This makes the SweDeliver Summer Internship an opportunity I simply cannot miss, and I am now looking forward to this fantastic experience, which I am confident will provide valuable insights for my future career and, hopefully, PhD studies,” says Sofia Hedberg.
