Dione L. Sánchez Hevia

Dione Sánchez-Hevia researches antibiotic interactions and interactions between bacterial species in the context of antimicrobial treatment. She develops methods for detecting drug interactions, including at sub-inhibitory concentrations, drawing on a background in bacterial regulation and physiology.

Research expertise and methodologies

  • Antibiotic interactions detection: CombiANT, SIF, checkerboards, time-kil.
  • Growth/Fitness
  • Gene expression level
  • Promoter mapping
  • Transcriptional/translational fusions
  • Applications with thermophilic bacteria

Ongoing research projects

Infections rarely happen in isolated, but complex contexts, frequently with more than one drug prescribed and/or with other microorganisms present. I am interested in understanding how antibiotics interact between them and the complex interactions than happen between different bacterial species, especially in the context of antimicrobial treatments.

Before joining Uppsala research community, I used to work on physiology on environmental bacteria, both mesophilic and thermophilic. Now, I used that regulatory background to study antibiotic interactions.
