For the 16th year: AIMday Materials presents researchers with the challenges of the industry
On Thursday 30 November 2023, the registration for questions to AIMday Materials 2024 closes – the event where challenges faced by industries convert into research collaborations with academia.
It is, at the time of writing, admittedly several months until February 14, 2024, and the AIMday Materials, the 16th in order. But as early as Thursday, November 30, 2023, the registration closes for companies and organisations that want to ask questions to university researchers at the popular all-day event.
What’s in it for the industry?
AIMday Materials is a day of in-depth, science-based discussions seeking solutions for concrete challenges. The challenges are questions that the participating companies and organizations are grappling with, which are matched with researchers in materials science at the university.
Innovative solutions by pin-pointing mutual interests
The conference presents an exchange of knowledge and ideas focused on finding novel pathways to innovative solutions through collaborations. The aim is to identify points of mutual interest and support research collaboration projects that enable innovations to meet the challenges of tomorrow.
For researchers, it is an opportunity to tune into the most recent challenges faced by the industry. For the industry, it is an opportunity for face-to-face discussions with researchers at the university.
AIMday has been an invaluable opportunity for Sandvik Coromant to gain new perspectives in material science. Over the years, we have submitted questions and received not only answers, but also inspiring ideas and insights that have enriched our work.
Uppsala University impresses with its progressive approach to the AIMday concept, enabling effective and fruitful discussions between industry and academia. This has provided us with a growing portfolio of research projects and collaborations with the university. We look forward to continuing to build on this relationship to drive innovation and development forward, says Erik Holmström, Senior Technology Area Manager, Materials & Processes at Sandvik Coromant.
Does it work? Earlier participants seem to think so
“AIMday has led to many new and fruitful collaborations with Uppsala University over the years, specifically master thesis projects, which have provided good and important competences to the company. I would estimate that around 80% of our submitted questions have generated something concrete, which is very positive”
Orlando Girlanda, Principal Scientist, Hitachi Energy.
“AIMday is a great meeting format and a very well-organised event with many networking possibilities. I am really looking forward to the next event and to be able to meet in person again for discussing our challenges within materials science. The possibility to apply for seed funding to get new collaborations started has been important for us and over the years we have developed several important long-term collaborations with researchers at Uppsala University”
Erik Johansson, Principal Scientist, ABB.
“AIMday is a great tool to get knowledge about the competence and infrastructure available at Uppsala University and to expand the network within the university. It is also a good networking opportunity for PhD students within materials science”
Charlotte Kullman, Head of Chemical Laboratory and Product Development Engineer, Saft Batteries.
“AIMday is a great forum for industry and academia to meet and discuss challenges. It is always inspiring to meet with engaged researchers from Uppsala University and hopefully find new collaborations. For us, it has also been interesting to get a perspective on different challenges within materials science that other companies have.”
Mamoun Taher, CEO, Graphmatech.
