Maria Selmer

Short presentation

Professor Maria Selmer is a structural biologist that investigates structural mechanisms in bacterial ribosome biogenesis, function and inhibition. Recent work has provided insights in structural mechanisms of antibiotic resistance against inhibitors of protein synthesis. Another line of research is the evolution of protein structure and function.

Research

The Selmer lab uses integrated structural biology in two different areas, protein synthesis coupled to antibiotic resistance and evolution of protein structure and function. We use X-ray crystallography and single-particle cryo-EM complemented by a variety of biochemical and biophysical methods. Our research is described here.
