Application International Master
This information is for the international admission round only, open 15 October 2024 to 15 January, 2025. The Swedish admission round is 15 March to 15 April, 2025. The programme starts autumn 2025.
Application
For the international admission round you apply through the national applications system run by University Admissions in Sweden. This is done at the website www.universityadmissions.se. There you can find all information about the application process, such as dates and deadlines. Note that it is only possible to submit an application during the application period, mid-October to mid-January.
You can read more about the application process on the University site.
If you are required to pay a tuition fee you find information about it on the University site about tuition fees.
Submitting the required documentation
On University Admissions you can find a list over what documents to submit when you apply, including your official transcripts, Bachelor's diploma (or proof of expected graduation and a transcript of studies taken in the last year and their amount of credits, if you are in your final year of Bachelor's studies), proof of English proficiency, and passport.
If you want to submit a GMAT test result, you must send a copy of the Official Score Report directly from the test centre as well as upload a copy to University Admissions. Note that it might take a couple of weeks for the Official Score Report to reach us.
Students applying for the Master's Programme in Accounting and Financial Management need to submit an application summary sheet that can be found on the Programme sites below
Students applying for the Master's Programme in Entrepreneurship also need to send in specific documentation. For information about the documentation, see our site about the Selection process.
Convertion of credits to ECTS credits
In the Swedish academic system one year full time studies equals 60 ECTS credits, 30 ECTS credits per semester. A Bachelor's Degree equals 180 ECTS credits. How credits from a University that uses another system than ECTS, are converted to ECTS varies, depends on how the courses on the transcript is presented.
If the transcript shows courses for each semester, we convert each semester separately. 30 is divided by the number of credits for one semester. That number is then multiplied with the credits in business/statistics. The number of ECTS credits for each semester are added.
If the academic year has three semesters or presents courses for one year at the time, we convert one year at the time. 60 is divided by the number of credits for one semester. That number is then multiplied with the credits in business/statistics. The number of ECTS credits for each semester are added.
If the transcript just shows a long list of courses, not divided into semesters or years, we covert to ECTS for the whole degree. 180 is divided by the total number of home university credits. That number is then multiplied with the credits in business/statistics.
Entry requirements
To be admitted you need to both fulfill the general and programme specific entry requirements. Information about general entry requirements can be found at Uppsala University's website. The general entry requirements are assessed by the Admissions Office and questions regarding that should be send to them.
The programme specific entry requirements can be found on the programme pages, and are assessed by the Department of Business Studies and questions regarding that should be send to the Student Counsellor.
Selection process
If you apply and fulfil all of the programme requirements, you will continue on to the selection process. The selection varies, depending on what programme you have applied for. Tuition fee-paying students and non-paying students are admitted on the same grounds but in different selection groups.
Information about the programme specific selection process can be found on the programme pages,
GMAT
GMAT is not mandatory, but students with a GMAT test score are given priority over ones without. Therefore, including a GMAT score will increase your chances of admittance. We accept both GMAT and GMAT Focus Edition, both the exam and the online exam.
In setting the requirements for candidates taking the GMAT Focus Edition, we are using the Score Concordance guidance provided by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), the maker of the GMAT exam. You can review the Score Concordance information at their website.
In order for the GMAT test to be used in the selection process, you must:
- tell the Test Center to send the GMAT Official Score Report to Uppsala University - use the code for the Programme you apply to when asked for,
- upload the test results to University Admissions. A print screen of the results are accepted.
Note that it might take a couple of weeks for the test center to send verification of the Official Score Report to Uppsala University. The documents must be received by the University no later than the last day to submit supporting documents. So make sure you have foresight when you do the test.
The GMAT test result cannot be older than five years on the last day of application.
If you apply to more than one of our Programmes, you only have to use the code for one of the Programmes when you send in the Score Report from the test centre.
GMAT codes for our Master's Programmes:
- Master's Programme in Accounting and Financial Management
3PH-0T-15 - Master's Programme in Business and Management
3PH-0T-61 - Master's Programme in International and European Law and Business
3PH-0T-09 - Master's Programme in Sustainable Management
3PH-0T-48
Higher academic credits
For credits to count they need to be completed no later than the last day of application.
Different education systems around the world count credits differently. As a basis, foreign degrees count as 180 credits (i.e. the normal length of a Swedish Bachelor’s degree). If a degree has taken more than three years to complete it will only count as more than 180 credits, if it meets one of the following requirements:
- Swedish credits shown on universityadmissions.se
- ECTS credits is shown on transcript
- Transferred credits visible at universityadmissions.se
Students in their last year of study will be given 150 as the merit value.
What counts as Business and Statistics?
What counts as a certain subject can vary between different universities. Here we explain more about what the Department of Business Studies count as business and statistics.
Business Studies
For the courses to count as business, they need to be for example
- Organisation
- Accounting
- Marketing
- Finance
- Management
“Economics” is another subject in Sweden, and falls under another Department at Uppsala University. Courses in economics do not count as business. The same thing goes for “Business Law”. Courses such as “Business English” would count as a language course.
Statistics
For the courses to count as statistics, they need to be named something like
- Statistics
- Econometrics
- Business Math
- Quantiative Methods
Pure mathematics courses or research courses do not count.
