Tuition fees at Uppsala University

Students from outside the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland are required to pay application and tuition fees in Sweden. The tuition fees are paid directly to Uppsala University.

The cost of tuition varies between Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes. Depending on the programme, one semester of full-time study costs between 50,000 and 72,500 SEK per semester.

Repayment of the tuition fee is only possible in cases where the student is prevented from participating in the programme or courses due to extenuating circumstances.

You may be exempt from paying the tuition fee if you, during your studies, fulfil any of these criteria:

  • You have been granted a permanent Swedish residence permit
  • You have been granted a temporary Swedish residence permit that was granted on the basis of other than studies
  • You have had a temporary Swedish residence permit that was granted on the basis of other than studies, and before it had expired you applied for renewal, and the Swedish Migration Agency has not yet determined your case

According to the Regulation on application and tuition fees at universities and colleges (SFS 2010:543 and 2011:303), citizens from outside the EU/EEA or Switzerland, also referred to as third-country students, shall in certain cases pay a fee for their higher education.
