Just got admitted?
Congratulations on your admission! On this page you will find all the information you need to get prepared before coming to Sweden, such as applying for a residence permit, finding a place to live and reading about insurance. It is important that you start preparing for your move well in advance, to ensure that you arrive in time for the start of the semester.
If you are admitted to a programme and want to postpone the commencement of your studies, you can apply for deferral of studies.
Your application should explain your reasons for deferral and be supported by documents. University policy only approves deferral based on extraordinary circumstances, such as medical reasons, illness, family crisis or compulsory military service. If you refer to medical reasons, for example, you need to submit a doctor's certificate. Not being able to afford tuition is not a valid reason for deferral. In fact, you can only be granted deferral if the first instalment of tuition has been made to Uppsala University.

You must be in Sweden when your programme starts!
If you do not arrive in time for the start of the semester, you might lose your seat in the programme. It is important that you know the latest date you are allowed to arrive. Each programme sets its own deadline, so once you have been admitted, you need to contact the programme coordinator to learn what date that is.
If you are prevented from participating in the semester’s first class, you must contact your programme coordinator directly. In some cases, you might be permitted to arrive at a later date. You must receive written confirmation that you are still allowed to commence the programme before travelling to Sweden!
If you are a fee-paying student and arrive after the start of the semester, you might not be refunded. Reimbursement of the tuition fee is only possible if a student is prevented from participating due to extraordinary circumstances. If you have paid tuition and are not permitted to join your programme, you need to send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org along with the decision from your programme coordinator.
