Guide dog and assistance dog
If you need to bring your guide dog or assistance dog into Uppsala University premises, you must apply in advance.
Pets are not permitted on Uppsala University premises. A guide dog or assistance dog is considered an assistive device and is therefore not regarded as a pet. To be allowed to bring a guide dog or assistance dog, certain conditions must be met. The basic requirements are:
- that you have a medical certificate confirming the need for an assistance dog, or corresponding documentation applicable in the case of a guide dog;
- that the dog is a trained and certified guide dog/assistance dog and wears an official service harness or service coat.
Once these requirements have been met, a review and an action plan are drawn up to manage potential risks and to accommodate different needs, for example, in cases of allergies. An evaluation is then made as to whether the proposed measures are feasible and sufficient before a decision is taken.
Who makes the decision?
The coordinators for targeted study support at the Student Affairs and Registry Division first assess whether the basic requirements are fulfilled.
The head of the department (or equivalent) to which the matter relates then decides to grant or deny access to the premises concerned.
How do I apply?
Begin by completing the application form. Please attach documentation confirming your need for a guide dog or assistance dog in your study environment, as well as documentation confirming that your dog is trained and certified and wears an official service harness or service coat.
If the basic requirements are assessed as being fulfilled, your case will be forwarded to the responsible head.
