During and after the exchange
During your stay at Uppsala University there are a few things you need to think about. The same goes for when your exchange with us is over.
During the exchange
Information meeting
When the semester starts an information meeting will be held by the Department of Business Studies. We strongly recommend that you participate as important information and documents are handed out on this occasion.
Documents to be signed
Book an appointment with the International Mobility Office in order to get your documents signed. All documentation needs to be signed before you return home.
Exams
Examinations normally take place at the end of each course. We do not have "exam periods". You must sign up for the exams 12 days prior to the examination at the latest. If you do not sign up, you will not be able to take the exam. No exceptions are given. You sign up for the exam in Ladok. In order to prove your identity in the examination hall you need to bring:
- A valid photo ID (your passport or EU approved ID)
You will not be allowed to take the exam under any circumstances if you have not brought a valid ID.
Grading
The Department of Business Studies use the following grading scale:
- Fail (U)
- Pass (G)
- Pass with credit (VG)
The duration and extent of programs and courses is expressed in a system of
credits equivalent to ECTS credits - that is, you take 30 credits per semester. A term is composed of 20 weeks. A full academic year corresponds to 60 credits. Each week of full-time study is worth 1.5 credits. A fulltime week is accounted for as 40 working hours.
In other words, one fulltime study week equals 1,5 credits and a full time week is accounted for 40 working hours (obviously this can vary from student to student). Our courses are normally worth either 7,5 credits and runs for 5 weeks (fulltime) or two courses parallel (halftime) for 10 weeks , or 15 credits (fulltime) and runs for 10 weeks.
The grading system differs between faculties and disciplinary domains. The grade “Fail” does not appear on the official transcript of records.
It is very important to note that if a student receives a passing grade, no re-takes or supplemental assignments can be done to receive a higher grade, nor can a student be re-registered on the course.
Social trips
Doing an exchange semester at Uppsala University, you are expected to fulfil a 40-hour study week with around 15 lectures and seminar hours, many of them obligatory.
Group assignments are collaborative in nature and will be affected severely, as well as your grades, if you should not participate fully. The teacher will on NO ACCOUNT change the schedule to accommodate trips or give extra tasks to students who choose to travel.
Students who do not appear at obligatory sessions or do not inform the teacher that they will be away due to a trip or for some other reason, will not receive final grades for the course.
After the exchange
The Official Transcript will not be sent to you automatically. You can download a digitally verified copy from Ladok as a PDF. Only grades from the Swedish system will appear on your Transcript. If you need the grade clarification with letter grades, you need to contact the department of Business Studies.
