Description of the project
Another major research direction is semi-artificial photosynthesis, where biological catalysts are combined with synthetic light-harvesting components to create biohybrid systems that convert solar energy into chemical fuels.
In these projects, we integrate hydrogenases, microorganisms, molecular photosensitisers, semiconductor materials, and electrochemical interfaces to study how light-driven electron transfer can be coupled to catalytic hydrogen production. These systems provide experimental platforms for understanding and controlling energy conversion across biological and synthetic components.
By combining enzymatic catalysis with molecular photochemistry and materials design, this research explores how principles from natural photosynthesis can be translated into new approaches for solar fuel generation.
